Deadfall removal
In Calgary, Airdrie, Okotoks, Cochrane, Chestermere and the surrounding area
What is deadfall
The dictionary defines it as a tangled mass of fallen trees and branches.
Trees die for many reasons and later can fall due to wind, storms, or other events. Provided that they don’t cause any incidents or damages, we still might need to remove them.
Why remove the deadfall
The most common reasons are:
- Prevent the spread of disease or pests – fallen trees can become a harbor of insects, fungi, small animals, and other unwanted pests that can affect the other plants or our property
- Fire hazard – when the fallen trees accumulate in rural and forest areas, they become a fire hazard
- Land clearing and repurposing – when we need to clear the land for crop planting, construction, or other commercial and industrial projects
- Landscaping and aesthetic reasons
After a storm I had a bunch of fallen trees on my land and Marcus helped me clear them.

How to remove tree deadfall
If a tree accidentally falls and needs to be cleared, there are a few ways to deal with it.
Most commonly, we start with limbing. This is the process of removing the limbs to make us some space to deal with the trunk.
Once the limbs have been removed, we are left with the tree trunk. Here we have some options, depending on the purpose.
What to do with the fallen tree
The easiest and most used method is to turn the whole or parts of the tree into woodchips, mulch, or firewood. The chips and the mulch can be re-used in the garden or for landscaping purposes.
Other ways to deal with the wood can be limited only by your imagination in various woodworking projects – from furniture to decorations, to landscape design. Let your creativity unleash to create original and beautiful projects!
